I have never played the game Angry Birds before, but I fell in love with the pig. I think he is adorable. A person could use this same principle to make any simple character for a shirt, bag, or maybe apply the design to a pair of jeans. I thought he looked awesome!. I made this removable insulated bag so it could have different uses such as a lunch bag, grocery bag, tote, or even a purse. This is a great way to re-use an insulated bag. Mine was damaged so I had to cut it down. You can simply make one bag with handles slightly larger than an insulated bag and place the insulated bag into the new bag. Then there is only one bag to make.The tote is large enough to carry things that you may need for your outing. It is pretty easy to make and can be hand sewn in a short time. It could be glued if you wanted. I am not sure about using hemming tape on the vinyl tote, because you need a hot iron, but it would be worth a try. The character could be painted using fabric paint. Follow through and I will show you how easy it is to make.
Step 1: Supplies
1 Vinyl table cloth piece 15 1/2" X 18" cut on the fold.
1 Cotton fabric piece (purple) 8 "X 11" cut on the fold.
1 Cotton fabric piece (green) 4 1/2" X 6" cut on the fold.
1 Vinyl insulated bag; cut (2) 15" X 14" with the handles centered in the middle. You will use the handles for the tote.
My insulated bag handles did not match the fabric I was using, so I removed the handles and made a cover for them. If your handles match, this step is not needed, just remove the handles and they will be re-attached later.
Cut 2 handles from purple fabric 22" X 15", these will be used to cover the handles.

Step 4: Embroider

Using the transfer pencil and some tracing paper; trace the image a couple of times onto the tracing paper to ensure a sharp clear copy.
Fold the green cloth in half wrong sides together.
Press.
Place the folded green cloth right side up on the ironing board.
Center the image over the cloth.
Iron according to the transfer pencil's directions to transfer the design.
Place the cloth with the image on it into the embroidery hoop.
Embroider the design.
Remove embroidered design from the hoop.
Press.
Print picture
Using the transfer pencil and some tracing paper; trace the image a couple of times onto the tracing paper to ensure a sharp clear copy.
Fold the green cloth in half wrong sides together.
Press.
Place the folded green cloth right side up on the ironing board.
Center the image over the cloth.
Iron according to the transfer pencil's directions to transfer the design.
Place the cloth with the image on it into the embroidery hoop.
Embroider the design.
Remove embroidered design from the hoop.
Press.
Step 5: Sew Pig to Purple Fabric
Turn under 1/4" on 3 sides of the purple fabric using the fold for the top of the pocket.
Press for a finished edge to sew to the tote later.
Center the pig on the purple fabric; with the top of the pig lined up with the top of the purple fabric.
Pin into place.
Hand stitch or machine sew the green fabric design to the purple fabric on all four sides making a 1/4" seam..
Trim excess thread.
Set aside until later.
Please read the bottom note.
Press for a finished edge to sew to the tote later.
Center the pig on the purple fabric; with the top of the pig lined up with the top of the purple fabric.
Pin into place.
Hand stitch or machine sew the green fabric design to the purple fabric on all four sides making a 1/4" seam..
Trim excess thread.
Set aside until later.
Please read the bottom note.
For all seam allowances use 1/4"throughout this instructable unless stated differently.
Step 6: Sew Pig to Front Tote Piece
Arrange the pocket on the tote. Mine is approximately 7" from the bottom of the tote, before it is sewn.
Pin the purple and green pig to the tote for a pocket.
Hand or machine stitch on three sides leaving the top open for the pocket.

Step 7: Sew the Sides
Pin the tote front to the tote back wrong sides together.
Turn the sides under 1/4" and pin the front to the back at the sides; to be sewn later.
Tuck the bottom of the tote up towards the inside of bag; between the front and the back sections about 2".
Smooth out the fabric so there are not wrinkles.
Pin the bottom at the sides to be sewn.
Machine stitch or hand sew the side seams of the tote.
Turn the sides under 1/4" and pin the front to the back at the sides; to be sewn later.
Tuck the bottom of the tote up towards the inside of bag; between the front and the back sections about 2".
Smooth out the fabric so there are not wrinkles.
Pin the bottom at the sides to be sewn.
Machine stitch or hand sew the side seams of the tote.
Step 8: Sew Insulated Bag
With wrong sides together pin the front of the insulated bag to the back of the insulated bag at the side seams.
Tuck the bottom up into the bag about 2"
Pin into place to be sewn.
Machine stitch or hand sew the side seams.
Trim loose threads.
Place the insulated bag into the tote to check the fit.
Take in or let out the seam as needed.

Step 9: Handles
Remove the handles from the insulated bag using the seam ripper.
If the handles need a covering; then cut out 2 pieces of the purple fabric 22"X 5".
With wrong sides together fold each of the the strips lengthwise in half.
Iron.
Open up the fold and:
Fold each of the 2 long side strips, lengthwise again to meet the center of the fold.
Press.
Fold each strip over in half, lengthwise again to meet the sides.
Place the handle strips in between the purple strips and pin together.
Hand stitch or machine sew the folded seam.
Trim loose threads.
Press.
Next step.
If the handles need a covering; then cut out 2 pieces of the purple fabric 22"X 5".
With wrong sides together fold each of the the strips lengthwise in half.
Iron.
Open up the fold and:
Fold each of the 2 long side strips, lengthwise again to meet the center of the fold.
Press.
Fold each strip over in half, lengthwise again to meet the sides.
Place the handle strips in between the purple strips and pin together.
Hand stitch or machine sew the folded seam.
Trim loose threads.
Press.

Step 10: Hem Top of Tote
Place the insulated bag inside the tote.
Fold the opening edge of the tote under 2".
Fold the tote fabric again to meet the top of the insulated liner so it hides the liner just slightly.
Pin.
Remove the insulated bag..
Sew the hem at the top of the opening of the tote close to the fold.
Fold the opening edge of the tote under 2".

Step 11: Placement and Sewing the Handles to the Tote
Place each purple handle centered on the tote spaced 4" apart. or use the insulated bag handles and follow these directions.
Pin.
Sew.
Trim Threads.
Pin.
Sew.
Trim Threads.
Step 12: Embellish
Embellish with buttons, ribbon, flowers, or what ever you like. Just remember if you are using it in such a way that cleaning will be necessary then add things that can be removed or washed.

We are finished! Now you have a stylish insulated lunch bag, grocery bag, tote or handbag. The best part is you can remove the insulated bag so it can have other purposes.
