Introduction: Chalk Board Shoes

About: I am married with two children. Spring, summer, and fall are my very favorite times of the year. I enjoy working in the yard, sewing, cooking, quilting, gardening, and creating. I do this to keep my sanity.
Everyone has been talking about chalk board paint, so I decided to see what it was all about. I wanted to try something with shoe art. I was totally amazed at the performance of this paint. It is incredible! I actually think it is possible to use chalk paint on casual shoes just like you would use shoe polish. I think the look and feel of it is much nicer than shoe polish. I was very impressed! Let me show you how easy it is.

Someone threw a box of trash out in the alley behind our house. To my advantage a pair of shoes were screaming make me pretty Sunshiine!

Step 1: Supplies and Tools

I used shoes with leather uppers.
Shoes
Black Chalk Board paint
Colored Chalk ( Pencil chalk would work best to write with but I could not find it in my area)
Paint brushes
Small damp cloth with mild soap
1 Shallow container to put paint in
Paper or plastic to protect painting surface

Step 2: Wash Shoes and Laces

Remove the shoe laces if you are using them or I replaced mine with white laces.
Wash the shoes and the laces in a washing machine with a bath towel; or hand wash.
Allow to dry.

Step 3: Paint First Coat

Paint the first coat of chalk paint on all areas you want painted.
Allow to dry for 1 hour.

Step 4: Paint Second Coat

Paint the second coat and allow to dry for 24 hours.
I painted mine with three coats but 2 will be OK.

Step 5: Condition Shoes

Lightly rub the painted area with chalk to condition the surface.
Clean with a damp cloth and mild soap.

Step 6: Lace Up Shoes

Lace up the shoes.
The shoes are ready for doodling.
