Introduction: How to Thickness Very Small Pieces Wood - Average Joes Quick Tips
Making small pieces of wood the same thickness and smooth can be very awkward. This quick tip should hopefully help the process.

Tools Used:
- Belt Sander
- Scrap Plywood (or anything flat)
- Hot Glue Gun
Step 1: Stick Pieces to the Board
Set your hot glue gun to its low setting. Doing this will make it easy to remove the glue later.
Add a couple of dabs of glue to the pieces you want to make the same thickness and smooth.
Then apply pressure to stick them to the piece of plywood.
Step 2: Sand, Remove & Repeat
Now you can sand the pieces.
The plywood not only makes it easier to hold the small pieces but because the plywood is flat, it means the pieces of wood will be sanded flat too. The thickness of the pieces naturally starts even out as the high areas are sanded away.
With the pieces sanded flat and smooth you can remove them from the plywood board. They will easily pop off with your hands. If you struggle with this step you can use something thin to help lift the pieces up. Because the glue gun was on the low setting the glue just peels off.
You can now flip the pieces over and do the same again.
Glue them to the plywood, sand and then remove them from the plywood.
As you can see this works really well. They are nice and smooth but most importantly they are the same thickness.
