I am not sure what type of rock this is but I will call it a fake slate stone. It is plentiful in my area. We are landscaping our yard and our back porch had these for a patio for many years. We are building a deck and don't need them but decided to use them for decorating other areas of our yard. I wanted a bench and made this using concrete blocks for the legs.

Step 1: SUPPLIES

ONE LARGE LONG FLAT ROCK
2 CONCRETE BLOCKS
SHOVEL
ELBOW GREECE

Step 2: LEVEL AREA WHERE YOU WILL PLACE BENCH

Level the area where you will be placing the bench so it does not wobble, using a shovel or rake.

Step 3: SET CONCRETE BLOCKS IN PLACE

Set your concrete blocks in place so they will fit under slate rock.

Step 4: PLACE YOUR FAKE SLATE ON TOP OF CONCRETE BLOCKS

Place your fake slate on top of your concrete blocks. Now you can enjoy your new slate bench! That was easy wasn't it? AND just think it only cost a few bucks and a little bit of labor. You could use many different things for the legs. You could use post or legs from something that you are no longer using. This bench has many possibilities. You can paint it a solid color or create some kind of art work on it. I wanted a more natural look so that is why I did not paint it. I used concrete because it was easy to make. No holes to dig. If you don't need a bench, make a table top out of one!
