Introduction: Mini Mint Tin Makeover

About: Hey there! I am a long time artist who has had a focus in many aspects. I started with traditional art, moved to 3d and games, and now I make wearable art out of repurposed and upcycled materials.

Hey there everyone!
Today I’m doing a super simple tutorial on reusing a mint tin.

Once you gather all of your supplies, let’s get started!

Supplies

All you need for this project is the following:
An old mint tin
Scissors
Decorative paper
A pen
Packing tape

Step 1: Cleaning

First step you will need to do is clean your tin. Whether it be taking excess tape off or just wiping out the inside, just make sure it’s nice and pretty.

I had to peel of some labels on the outside and then I just took a paper towel and wiped off the mint dust from the inside of the tin.

Step 2: Tracing

Next what you want to do is turn your tin top and bottom upside down (if they separate like mine) and trace them on to your paper.

I already had mine cut out, but cut yours out of your paper and label which one is which on the bottom of the paper.

Step 3: Cutting Out Your Pieces

Now cut out your pieces. I cut on the inside of the line that I drew. I didn’t really like the sizes of them, so I kept trimming until I got the size just right. I left about a millimeter of the tin visible around the edge so the tape in the next step would work better.

Step 4: Tape Tape Tape!

Alright now comes the tape!

Take a piece of packing tape about the size of the pieces. You want a bit extra length to wrap where you need.

If needed, you can double up the tape to get coverage. I actually had to on the top.

Line up your pieces top side to the tape and make sure you don’t have any folds or bubbles.

Take it and then line it to the side of the tin it belongs to and cut off the excess you don’t need. Then push the edges to the tin!

Repeat this for the other side.

Step 5: Viola!

And now you have a cute tin you can put stuff in! I’m gonna store gum in mine!!!! How bout you?

Note:
If I did it again, I would probably cut the corners of the tape at the corners of the tin so it didn’t bunch.
