Rosalian the alien instructable was inspired by the 1947 UFO crash in Roswell, NM. and by the instructables Halloween contest. This instructable will show you how you can make your version of a Halloween alien!

Almost everyone knows about the UFO crash at Roswell NM and the controversy that surrounds the event.

Because Halloween is approaching I decided to add to some of the stories with another one!

On July 2ND 1948 a year after the UFO crash an egg near the crash site was hatched and Alien 559205937XzTq1 became Roswell, NM's first native born alien.

She lived undiscovered until the alien culture began in Roswell sometime around 1994 when the Roswell movie was released. Since then many other movies have been produced. She became Rosalien at that time.

Step 1: INGREDIANTS

2 Packages of 6 Ounce lime Jell-o packages.
2 Pieces of foam sheets green and black for eyes and mouth.
2 Battery operated Led lights as shown in picture.
1 large clear glass plate.
1 Medium oval plastic bowl.
1 larger regular plastic bowl
1/2 Teaspoon vegetable oil.
1 Medium flexible rubber spatula.

Step 2: CUTTING OUT THE EMBELLISHMENTS.

Wash the foam sheets with soap and water.

Dry foam sheets with a towel.

Cut out the embellishments similar to the picture shown.

You should use your mold as a way to judge the size of eyes and mouth.

Set them aside until the Jell-0 is set.

Step 3: MAKING JELL-O READ CAREFULLY!

Follow the directions for making Jell-0 but add less water and only use hot water.

It took me several attempts to make the mold firm enough for my egg.

I finally made the recipe with half as much water as the directions and it turned out OK.

I would make one with half as much water to start and if it is too strong experiment according to your taste.

I made 1 batch with the regular recipe and it was too soft.

I made the 2nd batch with 1 cup less water and it was still too soft.

My next batch was with 1/2 the water and it turned out great! The recipe with half makes the Jello firmer and it has a stronger flavor. We loved it.

If you have never made a Jell-o mold I would definitely make one to see if your good at it.

I know by using my plastic bowl as a mold it was a thicker plastic than other molds made for Jell-0 and was a little more difficult to decide how long to emerge into the water.

Step 4: PRE-PARING THE MOLD

Use the oil to lightly oil the entire inside of the bowl.

After the jell-0 has cooled to where it is not hot to touch pour it in the bowl almost to the rim.

Let it set up in the refrigerator until it is completely set up.

The way to tell is, if it is not sticky on top.

Step 5: RELEASING THE JELL-0 FROM THE MOLD.

If you are using a thick bowl to dip the mold in run hot water in it to warm it up.

Remove the chilled plate from the refrigerator.

Dip the spatula in hot water for a minute to warm it up.

Take the spatula and carefully outline the mold all the way around to help release the mold.
Carefully run it down as far into to sides of the bowl as you can.

It is better to be safe than sorry so start with warm water in the dipping bowl.

Here is the tricky part. Depending on your Jell-0 mold will determine the water temperature.

I used hot water and it worked fine but if the mold is a thinner mold than what I used it might melt the Jell-0 too much.

Stay right there with the Jell-0 and watch it.

You will begin to see a little water form around the edge.

When this happens slightly tip the bowl.

If the Jell-0 slides to one side smoothly and evenly it should be long enough.

Remove the Jell-0 from the bowl and slowly tilt the bowl more and see if it will release.

If it seems to move easily, place the clear plate on top of the bowl and carefully turn it up-side down so the Jell-0 releases onto the clear plate.

If your mold breaks don't worry.

Empty the contents into a sauce pan and start the process all over and retry.

If that does not work, eat the jell-0 and make a new batch experimenting with the water.

One problem releasing the Jell-0 from the mold is the suction at the bottom of the bowl.

Step 6: EMBELLISHING THE MOLD.

It is time to embellish the Alien.

Place the eyes and mouth where you think they need to be.

If you are using the lights, I used 2 of the led lights and placed them on a plate.

I set the clear plate with the alien on top of the plate and set the lights where they were at the same setting at the same time.

It takes a few tries to do this but you just look at the blinking lights until you see a good time to stop them.

Then you stop the other light at the same point.

Your alien is born!
