Introduction: Steampunk / Civil Defense - LED Iphone Docking Station

About: I am a maker, DIY'er, Dad, Engineer, and all around life Long Learner. My mission is to try new things, attempt to do more by learning from others and share my experiences with others for enjoyable experience…

Just a quick post of two iPhone docking station I built for my sons.  I didn't take picture through the build but I was told to post it anyway.  If you read my other projects, you can get a feel for how to get into the details.

I bought a small external speaker system for an iPhone at Radio shack for $14 USD and tore it apart to fit in a 1960s vintage Civil Defense radition level detector.  I got them on eBay cheap! like $12 each! and they even worked!

So I gutted the unit and had to grind off a lot of aluminum reinforcing gussets on the inside.  The CD box had a pen like radiation collector that was pressed onto a contact at the screw cap for resetting it after use.  So I reused that cap for the iPhone output jack for the music input to the external speaker.

I added in a small power supply for 5 vdc for the leds and a power cord.  Also made a speaker protection plate and that's it!  A perfect dormitory iPhone speaker / charger!
