Introduction: Summer Stylish Dress Using a T-shirt for the Pattern

About: I am married with two children. Spring, summer, and fall are my very favorite times of the year. I enjoy working in the yard, sewing, cooking, quilting, gardening, and creating. I do this to keep my sanity.
I've been blessed to have my son and daughter in law visiting me this week.  My daughter-in-law, being quite the girly girl and fashionably sensitive, was wearing a very adorable designer t-shirt she bought.  After looking at the simplicity of the design I decided to make her a dress using this shirt as the pattern.  This dress turned out incredibly cute and surprisingly easy to make.  I have never really enjoyed sewing with knits but I must say that after making this dress I have a new appreciation for making clothes with these kinds of fabrics.  It makes sewing a dream!

Step 1: Supplies

1 1/2 Yards knit fabric
Favorite t-shirt for the pattern
Matching thread
Scissors
Yard stick
Sewing machine
Sewing pins

Step 2: Cut Out the Shirt

Cut out the front and back pieces of the shirt.

Step 3: Cut Out the Bottom Section of the Dress

Cut 2 pieces 13 X 17 inches this will be the dress bottom.

Step 4: Pinning the Dress Bottom

With right sides together pin one dress bottom to the shirt  front.
With right sides together pin the remaining dress bottom to the shirt back.

Step 6: Sew the Dress

Step 7: Neck, Sleeve, and Hem

Sew the neck, sleeves, and bottom hem.
Turn right side out.

Step 8: Sunshiine's Final Thoughts

I will be looking for more opportunities to create new clothes using knits and designer shirts for patterns.  We had an incredible experience creating this stylish dress and I am eager to surprise her with another before she leaves.

In closing I would like to thank  our instructables company, sponsors,  authors, readers, and members, for making this community a great success!  Many hours of time and hard work has been put into making this place the best DIY on the Internet. Have a splendorous day!
