Introduction: Lamination Aid - by Arthur Demeyer and Arno Weymaere.

This product is designed to help you laminate books in a more comfortable and efficient way. Laminating the edges of a book can be very tricky. With this device it's no longer a problem.

Step 1: This Movie Will Explain the Problem We Solved and the Working of the Product.

I'm sorry but the lyrics in the movie is in Dutch.

We describe the problems our client had while laminating books and the problem that our product solves.

Step 2: Choosing the Right Materials to Build the Product.

To start off, you will need to buy a list

of basic materials to build the laminate aid. Below you will find a list that contains all the parts needed to build the product. For several parts, we will let you buy existing products. Later you will hack these in a way that they become functional and fit into the design. Below the part list we will give you the exact dimensions and specific info. Some parts can be purchased in specific stores. This info will also be given.

- Iron bar 2.

The iron bar needs to be solid. We bought ours in ‘Brico’. A DIY shop. But you will definitely find them in your local DIY shop. Dimensions Diameter 0.9mm Length 10cm

- Wood plank 1.

The wood plank we used is a Multiplex. But any kind of plank with the same dimensions will work. Wood planks can be bought in most DIY shops. There will definitely be a store in the area that sells wooden planks in small amounts. Dimensions Thickness between 0.5mm and 0.9mm. Lenght 40cm - Height 20cm

- Wood plank 2.

For the second plank we also used Multiplex. But again any plank with the same dimensions will work. Dimensions Thickness between 1.5 cm and 2 cm. Length 40cm – height 10cm

- Bolts

We will use two bolts.

M4 - 30mm long

- Screw

We will use 8 screw.

M4 - 15mm

- Electric wire lamp

In our design we will also use the wire of the lamp.

Step 4: Building the Product - Step One.

For the first step of the project. You will need to drill the holes in the frame of the bureau lamp.

The drilling includes 5 holes in 4 steps.

In the picture you will see 5 red dots. The red dots represent the holes.

Step 5: Drilling the Holes - Step 1.

The firs thole is at a height of 18 mm in the center of the frame. The center is 5 mm.

You want to measure the 18 mm from the nearest point of the spoke.

Step 6: Drilling the Holes - Step 2.

The second hole is located 85 mm down from the top of the frame spoke. Remember this is another frame spoke then in step 1.

Control

Check if part 'iron bar 2' fits into the hole.

Step 7: Drilling the Holes - Step 3.

In this step we will drill two holes. Both at the same height in different spokes. These holes will be drilled in the front or the back of the spoke. In step one and two we drilled into the left or right side of the spoke.

Both holes are located on 172 mm high, removed from the bottom of the spoke. Both holes lie in the center of the spoke. The center is 5 mm.

Step 8: Drilling the Holes - Step 3.

In step 4

you will need to drill a hole in the lowest point of the frame. The piece of the frame that will later be put into the piece of the product that’s positioned on the table.

This hole needs to have a diameter of 8.5 mm and is located 23 mm from the bottom, centered.

Step 9: Woodwork - Step 1.

When all the holes in the frame are drilled we will start with the woodwork. As you know, you bought a wooden mop stick. In this phase you will cut this stick in pieces and work them. This phase will be divided in two steps.

Step 1.

Saw a piece of the mop stick. This piece needs to be 180 mm long.

After that you will make small incisions in the wood over the length of 55 mm. The start point of this area is located 35 mm from the bottom of the piece. Important is to make the incisions vertical into the piece and to only saw thru half of the stick. The picture will give more insight.

After that
you will cut the little pieces of wood away with a chisel. After that the surface will still be a bit ruff. You can smoothen that with a wood rasp and sandpaper.

Step 10: Woodwork - Step 2.

For the second step you will saw a piece of 100 mm of the mop stick. In the center of the saw cut you will drill a hole. The diameter of this hole needs to be 6.5 mm.

Step 11: Drilling Hole in Position-er.

In the piece of the product that positions the frame on the table needs to be a hole as well.

This hole needs to be into the left or right side of the piece. And the hole needs to be located 8 mm from the top of the piece, centered.

Step 12: Bending Iron Bar 1.

Now part 'iron bar 1' needs to be cut and bent into the right dimensions.

Step 13:

The second iron bar needs to be cut in the right dimensions as well.

The bar needs to bee 10 cm long.

Step 14: Assembly Handle.

The 'iron bar 2' can be hammered into the hole you drilled into the sawed wood piece of 10 cm.

After that you need to drill a hole at the end of the wood piece. The hole must have a diameter of 8.5 mm and must be positioned at 2 cm of the end of the piece, centered.

Step 15:

There will need to be drilled two holes in the mop head as well.

Both holes need to be removed 3 cm from the end of each side. The holes must have a diameter of 6.5 mm.

Step 16: Cutting Parts - Plank One and Two.

Parts - plank one and two - need to be cut in the right dimensions. The image will give you the specific instructions. Measurements an angles.

After you cut them in the right dimensions you gave to screw them together at a angle of 90°. The image will give you more clarity. To connect the planks you have to use the screw M4 - length 15 mm. If you are using MDF wood. You will have to drill a hole first to not crack the wood.

Step 17: Drilling Holes in the Wooden Handle.

You already cut out an area of the handle. You removed half and created a flat surface. In that surface you will drill two holes. These holes need to be drilled at a angle of 50° - 15 mm separated from each other. The technical drawing will explain more.

The holes must have a diameter of 4 mm.

Step 18: Connection - Handle - Mop Head - Lamp Frame.

The two holes you just drilled match with the two holes located on one of the two spokes of the lamp frame.
If you connect the holes of the spoke with the holes of the handle with the bolts M4. we create a connection.

There will be another hole in the other spoke of the lamp frame. You will have to put a fast tightener through the hole and connect is with the other spoke to make sure they can't move desperately anymore.

Now you put in the wood handle into the mop head. And make sure the cut out levels with the opening of the mop head. Now you will see a hole in the mop head that was already there. The hole closest up matches with the wood handle. Screw a screw through the hole into the handle. Again the picture will give more clarity.

Step 19: Iron Bar 1.

Positioning the iron bar 1 into the product. The iron bar fits into the hole you made in the lamp frame and into the holes you made in the mop head. This provides stability in the design.

Step 20: Strength.

In the previous step were you cut iron bar 1 into the right dimensions. You saved the piece you had cut away.

Now we are going to place that piece into one of the holes we made in the lamp frame to give it strength.

Step 21: Connection.

The position-er that positions the lamp on the table needs to be screwed on plank number 1.

The technical image will give you the exact measurements.

Step 22: Electrical Wire.

Cut the electrical wire at 37 cm. Now put the wire through the hole you made earlier in the wooden handle.

Meld the ends of the wire together with hot melt. then melt them into the hole of the position-er.

Step 23: End Result.
