About: Hello and Welcome to In the Kitchen With Matt. I am your host Matt Taylor. My goal for the show is to teach you how to cook really good food at home for cheap. Eating out everyday can get expensive, but it doe…

In this Instructable, I am going to show you how to make baked tuna patties. This easy tuna patty recipe is a great hamburger patty substitute, if you want to change it up, or want to do something different with that tuna in your pantry. Or maybe you are staying away from red meat for a while or can't find hamburger right now, or just plain don't eat it. You can make some awesome tuna burgers! They are really easy to make, if I can do it, you can do it. Let's get baking!

Follow the easy steps below or watch the short video tutorial or do both!

Step 1: Ingredients

You may print the recipe here if you like.

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup traditional breadcrumbs or almond flour (45g)
  • 1/4 tsp. salt (1g)
  • 1/4 tsp. black ground pepper (1g)
  • 1/2 tsp. garlic powder (2g)
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tbsp water - I used the water from the tuna can (15ml)
  • 2 tsp. olive oil (10ml)
  • 2 tsp. yellow mustard or dijon mustard (10g)
  • 2 (5oz) cans of tuna, packed in water (242g)
  • 1/4 cup chopped parsley (8g)

Tools:

  • Bowls
  • Fork
  • Spoon
  • Sheet pan or cookie sheet
  • Silicone mat or parchment paper

Step 2: Dry Ingredients

Begin by preheating the oven to 375 F or 190 C. Then in a small bowl mix together the breadcrumbs or almond flour, salt, pepper, and garlic powder.

Step 3: Wet Ingredients

In a separate bowl mix up the egg, then add the water (tuna water from the can), oil, and mustard and mix those all together until well combined.

Step 4: Tuna Time

Add the canned tuna to a large bowl and then add the egg mixture, the chopped parsley, and the breadcrumbs mixture. Mix everything together really well with a fork or wooden spoon.

Step 5: Form the Patties

Now, I usually divide the tuna into fourths inside the bowl, so I can keep them roughly all the same shape. Then with very clean hands, or wear gloves, grab the tuna mixture and pat it together in your hands to form the tuna patty.

Step 6: Bake Those Patties

Now, place the tuna patties on a sheet pan lined with parchment paper or a silicone mat. Then bake them in the oven for 10 minutes. After 10 minutes flip them over and bake them for another 10 minutes or so until lightly golden brown. Remove them from the oven and allow them to cool.

Or you can heat up a skillet with a tablespoon of oil in it on medium heat and then cook the patties in there for about 4 minutes per side.

Then use them the same way you would a hamburger patty. Or just eat them plain. Enjoy! :)
