What is a banana split? It is basically a sundae with bananas. It is one of the most popular desserts here in the United States. I have many fond memories of eating them growing up. They are simple to make, if I can do it, you can do it. Let's get started!

Step 2: Slice the Banana

You can't have banana splits without bananas. Take a ripe banana, not super ripe though like the kind used for banana bread, peel it and then cut it lengthwise down the middle. This is where the term "split" came from. Place the banana halves in a bowl or a fun little boat dessert dish.

Step 3: Ice Cream and Syrups

Now scoop on the ice cream and place each scoop in the middle of the split bananas. You can use all vanilla ice cream, all chocolate, strawberry, etc. Or a combination of scoops of ice cream, it is entirely up to you, it is your banana split, after all, you do you. Then add on some syrups like strawberry syrup, chocolate syrup, or caramel syrup/sauce. You could do fresh fruit too if you wanted.

Step 4: Finish It Off

Now add on some whipped cream and top it with nuts, maraschino cherries, mini chocolate chips, coconut flakes, etc. Enjoy!
