Introduction: Brigadeiro Brazilian Chocolate Treat (3 Ingredients)

About: Hello and Welcome to In the Kitchen With Matt. I am your host Matt Taylor. My goal for the show is to teach you how to cook really good food at home for cheap. Eating out everyday can get expensive, but it doe…

In this instructable I will show you how to make Brigadeiro. Brigadeiro is a traditional Brazilian Chocolate Treat that is very popular to have for birthdays but it is made at any time really. It is a made from just three ingredients, sweetened condensed milk, butter, and cocoa powder. Then of course you need to cover the outside, usually with chocolate sprinkles. It is kind of like a chocolate truffle. It gets its name from the Brigadier Eduardo Gomes and gained popularity in the mid to late 1940's. It is a very yummy chocolate treat and super easy to make, if I can do it, you can do it. Let's get started!

Don't forget to follow me and check out my other instructables. :)

Step 2: Butter and Sweetened Condensed Milk

First turn on your stovetop to Medium-Low heat. Place your non-stick pot on there and add your butter. No need to preheat the pot first. Once your butter has melted add in your sweetened condensed milk. Let the stirring commence! From now on we will be constantly stirring for about 15 to 20 minutes. :)

Step 3: Cocoa Powder and Yes More Stirring

Right after you add in your sweetened condensed milk add in your cocoa powder. I used a sifter with my cocoa powder to make sure all the clumps were broken up which left me with a fine cocoa powder. Keep stirring away, make sure to stir at the lower edges of the pot too, if you stop stirring the mixture will most likely burn and that is no good. After awhile it will start to thicken up, keep stirring. You will burn a few calories making this for sure. Then between the 15 and 20 minute mark it will be fairly thick. When you scape the bottom of the pot and create like a crevasse in the chocolate, and the sides stay put before slowly working in towards each other (easier to tell in the video), then you know it is ready to go and you can take it off the heat and stop stirring.

Step 4: Plate and Chill

Now dump out that yummy chocolate goodness onto a plate. Then place the plate in the fridge for 30 minutes. You could let it cool at room temp and then just scoop it up and eat as is. Or you could drizzle it over a cake, and it will serve like a ganache. But we are making the classic kind that you would see at like birthday parties.

Step 5: Butter, Scoop, Roll

Now once our brigadeiro has chilled, we take it out of the fridge and add a little bit of butter to our hands. Make sure your hands are clean! Then using a spoon scrape up some of the chocolate and roll it into a ball in the palms of your hands.

Step 6: Dip, Place, Chill

Next dip that ball into your bowl of sprinkles or coconut or nuts. Then place in a paper cup. Do that with the rest. Once you are done place them all back in the fridge for 15 to 20 minutes to firm up. :)

Step 7: Serve Them Up!

Mmm after taking them out of the fridge, take a bite into one...So yummy! They are ready to go.

Step 8: Video Tutorial
