Introduction: DIY Desk Cleaner

A desk will eventually get dirty with time. It is very inconvenient to take all the bits by hand for disposal. To solve this issue, I built a Desk Cleaner by using a brushless motor. This is a very simple project requiring no microcontrollers. So, here is what you need...

Supplies

Step 1: The Box

For the box, I am using an old plastic container. To close it (while leaving space for the motor) I took some cardboard and made it to perfectly fit inside the case. I also kept a cloth layer on one side of the cardboard to absorb the dust but this is completely optional.

Step 2: Circuit

This is the circuit for the motor. I will be making two circuits for this project, one for the motor and one for the battery. I will be connecting both using a USB type-A cable.

I am using a small 3.7v Lithium-ion battery for this project. I am also using a power bank module which is used for charging in this project. There are 3 USB ports in the module which gives a 5V output. I will be connecting the motor circuit to one of them.

Now, connect the battery to the positive and negative terminals of the module.

Step 3: Assembly

I had some space to the side opposite to the space left for the fan. Here, I kept the battery and on top of that, the power bank module was placed. Then I connected the motor to the case using superglue. The switch was attached to the side of the case using some adhesive and insulation tape.

Connect the USB to any 1 of the 3 ports. This will close the circuit.

Step 4: Demo

So, as you can see the machine is working as expected. It can be useful for collecting pencil shavings and bits of paper.

Good luck building!
