Step 2: Cream Butter With Sugars

First let's preheat our oven to 350 degrees F. (177 C). Then lets cream together our softened butter with our white and brown sugars. If your butter is not quite soft enough, go ahead and put it in the microwave for 10 to 15 seconds. Now use your hand mixer or stand mixer to cream the ingredients. Scrape the sides of the bowl afterwards. We want to make sure we get everything all nice and mixed together.

Step 3: Add Eggs and Vanilla Extract

Now let's add our eggs one at a time, mixing in between, and scraping the sides of the bowl with a spatula as needed. Then add your vanilla extract, again mixing after until combined, then scraping the bowl after.

Step 4: Mix Dry Ingredients

Now we add our baking soda and our salt to the flour and mix with a whisk or sifter, until well combined.

Step 5: Add Flour to Dough

Next we add the flour about a third to a fourth of it at a time to the dough, mixing in between, and scraping the sides as needed. Before you add the last amount of flour go to the next step.

Step 6: Add Chocolate Chips and Then Rest of Flour

Next we add our chocolate chips. I am using semi-sweet chocolate chips, you can you milk chocolate ones too if you like. Again mix with your mixer, once they are nice and mixed in, add your remaining flour and mix again until combined. Then scrape the sides, one final few seconds of mixing, and then your dough will be done. Make sure to clean your beaters afterwards. I just use my spatula to push the dough away from the beaters.

Step 7: Bake Them Cookies

Now we take a spoon or small cup or ice cream scoop, and get about 2 tablespoons worth of dough, depending on the size of the cookie that you want, and then place on your cookie sheet lined with parchment paper or an Artisan Mat (Silicone Baking Mat). I absolutely love my baking mat, it lasts a super long time, very easy to clean, and helps to prevent the cookies from burning on the bottom. Parchment paper will work great too. We bake our cookies in the oven at 350 degrees F for 8 to 12 minutes depending on the size of the cookie, start with 8 minutes and go from there. You will bake them until you see the edges getting brown.

Step 8: Finished Cookies

Once the cookies come out of the oven, you will notice a little browning around the edges, and a bit on the tops. Let the cookies sit on your cookie sheet for about 5 more minutes, then transfer to a cookie rack to cool completely. Serve them warm, or cool if you like. Notice the bottom of the cookie, nice brown color. :) Enjoy those cookies with your friends and family!
