Introduction: Knit Baby Blanket

Learn how to make an cute baby blanket for your own child or for a friends baby shower! Finished product measures 30" x 36". No special knitting skills required - if you can knit and purl, then you can make this blanket!

Gauge: 4stitches/inch. 7rows/inch

Note: I created this pattern myself, so please excuse the wording! If anything is confusing, leave a comment and I will help you!

You will need:

US 10/6mm circular needles

3 skeins of worsted weight yarn (100g per skein)

Patience ;)

Step 1: Cast on and Top Border

Cast on 135 stitches

Row 1:
Starting with knit: knit one, purl one for the whole row.

Row 2:
Starting with knit: knit one, purl one for the whole row. For this row you will be knitting the purls, and purling the knits. This is what creates that honeycomb look.

Repeat until your top border is 28 rows long.

Step 2: Inside Border

Row 29:
Starting with a knit: knit one, purl one for 15 stitches.
Knit only for 105 stitches.
Starting with knit: knit one, purl one for the final 15 stitches.

Row 30:
Starting with a knit: knit one, purl one for 15 stitches.
Purl only for 105 stitches.
Starting with knit: knit one, purl one for the final 15 stitches.

Repeat for 7 rows

This continues the honeycomb border down the sides and adds in the "plain" inner border along the top.

Step 3: The Inside Pattern Pt1

Row 36:
Starting with knit: knit one, purl one for the first 15 stitches
Knit 7 stitches
(Purl 10 stitches, knit 10 stitches) repeat until 23 stitches remain
Knit 8 stitches *note there are 8 stitches here, not 7
Starting with knit: knit one, purl one for the last 15 stitches

Row 37:
Starting with knit: knit one, purl one for the first 15 stitches
Purl 8 stitches
(Knit 10 stitches, purl 10 stitches) repeat until 23 stitches remain
Purl 7 stitches
Starting with knit: knit one, purl one for the last 15 stitches

Repeat for 15 rows

This starts our inside square pattern while continuing the honeycomb and plain borders on the edges

Step 4: The Inside Pattern Pt2

Row 51:
Starting with knit: knit one, purl one for the first 15 stitches
Knit 7 stitches
(Knit 10 stitches, Purl 10 stitches) repeat until 23 stitches remain
Knit 8 stitches *note there are 8 stitches here, not 7
Starting with knit: knit one, purl one for the last 15 stitches

Row 52:
Starting with knit: knit one, purl one for the first 15 stitches
Purl 8 stitches
(Purl 10 stitches, Knit 10 stitches) repeat until 23 stitches remain
Purl 7 stitches
Starting with knit: knit one, purl one for the last 15 stitches

Repeat for 15 rows

This continues our inside square pattern while continuing the honeycomb and plain borders on the edges

Step 5: REPEAT!

Repeat steps 3 and 4 until you have 7 'rows' of squares

Step 6: Finish the Borders Pt1

Row 141:
Starting with a knit: knit one, purl one for 15 stitches.
Knit only for 105 stitches.
Starting with knit: knit one, purl one for the final 15 stitches.

Row 142:
Starting with a knit: knit one, purl one for 15 stitches.
Purl only for 105 stitches.
Starting with knit: knit one, purl one for the final 15 stitches.

Repeat for 7 rows

This continues the honeycomb border down the sides and finishes the "plain" inner border along the bottom.

Step 7: Finish the Borders Pt2

Row 148:
Starting with knit: knit one, purl one for the whole row.

Row 149:
Starting with knit: knit one, purl one for the whole row. For this row you will be knitting the purls, and purling the knits.

Repeat until your bottom border is 28 rows long.

Cast off and you are done!
