Introduction: Oreo Turkeys

About: Hello and Welcome to In the Kitchen With Matt. I am your host Matt Taylor. My goal for the show is to teach you how to cook really good food at home for cheap. Eating out everyday can get expensive, but it doe…

In this Instructable, I will show you how to make awesome no-bake Oreo Turkeys. These Oreo Turkey treats are so incredibly easy to make. It is a fun family activity to do inside. There are a variety of ideas/styles of Oreo turkey that you can try, have fun with it. They can be left out at room temperature so they make a great edible decoration for the holidays. Maybe make some of these and put them outside a gingerbread house for Christmas. If I can do it, you can do it. Let's get started!

Follow the easy steps below or watch the video tutorial or do both!

Step 1: Ingredients and Tools

Ingredients:

  • 15 to 20 Double-Stuff Oreos
  • Regular Oreos for the bases
  • White candy melts, white chocolate, or royal icing (can use any flavor of chocolate and icing)
  • Candy corns
  • Almond slices
  • Milk or dark chocolate mini Reese's peanut butter cups
  • Milk duds
  • Whoppers
  • Crushed nuts, optional
  • Candy eyeballs
  • Butterscotch chips or white chocolate chips for the beaks, or use a piece of candy corn
  • Swedish fish or red licorice

Tools:

  • Cutting board
  • Knife
  • Plastic bag or piping bag
  • Scissors

Step 2: Melt the Chocolate/candy Melts

First, we need to make our "glue" and for that, I am using white candy melts, but white chocolate or any kind of chocolate will work as well. Candy melts harden a bit better and work better if the treats will be left out at room temperature. Royal icing is also a good option for glue.

Melt the candy melts/chocolate in either a bowl or use microwavable piping bags and just put them in there. Heat for 30 seconds stir, or if in the bag, massage the bag then heat again, etc, until melted.

Snip off the end with scissors and you are good to go. You can also just spoon the melted chocolate into a sandwich bag and snip the corner off, instead of using actual piping bags.

Step 3: Oreo Turkey Back and Feathers

First, create the back and "feathers" of the Turkey. Take a double-stuffed oreo, it needs to be a double-stuffed because a regular Oreo doesn't have a wide enough gap for the candy corns, and add a bit of chocolate in the gap. Then gently stick in 4 to 6 candy corns.

Or for a different style, use sliced almonds.

Step 4: Turkey Belly and Head

Now for the belly and head. Add a dollop of chocolate at the bottom of the Oreo and then stick a mini Reese's peanut butter cup on it. This will be the belly. You can use something else for the belly if you like.

Then a dollop of chocolate above the belly. Place a Milk Dud or Whopper down for the head.

Step 5: Finish the Face

Time to finish the face. Add a little chocolate to the Milk Dud or Whopper, and place a butterscotch chip down for the beak or use a white chocolate chip, or even cut the white part off of candy corn and use that.

Then add little dollops of chocolate for the candy eyeballs, or just leave the chocolate dollops as is for the eyes.

Add a little chocolate to the side of the beak and cut a small piece of Swedish fish or licorice and attach it next to the beak to represent the snood of the OreoTurkey.

Step 6: Make the Base

To make the base, take a regular Oreo and pull it apart. Add a big dollop of chocolate to one end and stick the Turkey to it.

Another thing you can do is drizzle some chocolate on the other side and sprinkle some chopped nuts, which represent dirt.

Allow them to sit and dry until the chocolate is set. If you use candy melts, by the time you finish with the third or fourth one the candy will have set for the others, same with royal icing.

And there you go, cool little Oreo Turkey treats decorations, for the Holidays, or anytime you want. Enjoy!
