Step 1: Ingredients and Tools

You may print the recipe here if you like.

Ingredients:

Brownies

  • 1 brownie box mix (18 oz/510g) Or use your favorite homemade brownie recipe or follow my brownie recipe

These go with the brownie mix, use what is says on the box.

  • 1 large egg
  • 1/4 cup water (60ml)
  • 1/3 cup oil (vegetable, canola, coconut, etc.) (78ml)

Pecan pie topping

  • 1/4 cup corn syrup (92g)
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar or you can use white granulated sugar (100g)
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract (5ml)
  • 1/4 tsp. salt (1g)
  • 2 cups pecans (210g)

Tools

  • Bowls
  • Spoon
  • Spatula
  • 8x8 or 7x11 baking pan
  • Shortening, cooking spray, or parchment paper

Step 2: Make the Brownies

Preheat the oven to 350 F/176 C.

Begin by making the brownies. You can use a box mix, or you can use your favorite homemade brownie recipe, or use the recipe I have here on Instructables.

In a large bowl, add the mix, egg, water, and oil and combine until well blended. Pour the brownie batter into a greased 8x8 or 7x11 baking pan. Or you can also fit it with parchment paper if you like.

Bake the brownies in the oven, middle rack position, for 25 minutes.

Step 3: Pecan Pie Topping

When there are about 3 minutes left on the time for the brownies, mix together the pecan pie topping.

In a medium bowl whisk the egg and the vanilla extract. Add in the corn syrup and mix that in. Then add the salt and the brown sugar (or you can use white granulated sugar) and mix well with a spoon or whisk. Pour in the pecans and stir them in. The pecan pie topping is ready to go.

Step 4: Pecan Pie on the Brownie

Remove the brownies from the oven with a hot mitt. Pour the pecan pie topping over the top and spread it evenly. Then place it back in the oven and bake for 25 more minutes.

Remove it from the oven and allow it to cool completely. The cooler it is the easier it is to cut and serve.

Step 5: Serve It!

Now, once it has cooled, cut it up into squares, I usually make 9 squares or servings. You will probably need to run a cake spatula or butter knife around the edges, a lot of time, the pecan filling will go to that edge and become a caramel that likes to stick to the edge.

If you used parchment paper, just grab it and pull the whole thing out, then cut it. I really like doing it that way.

Enjoy!
