Introduction: Tinkercad Sim Lab Connectors in Minutes!

About: Retired Educator, YouTuber, and Maker. 32 years in a middle school classroom teaching STEM. I ❤ Ah-ha Moments!

Tinkercad allows you to design fun or useful objects with minimal effort on a variety of devices. Sim Lab allows you to play with them and see how they react with a bit of gravity and thrown objects. A Pivot, Axle, and Slider connector have been added to the toolset and this project will get you started with them.

Supplies

You will need a PC, Chromebook, or Tablet to complete this training.

Step 1: Find the Starter Project

Find the Tinkercad Starter project with this link. If it is your first time using Tinkercad I suggest just using Sign in with Google. There are notes in the project that will help you find the tutorial video that companies the project. Of course, you can click that link as well.

Step 2: Build a Spinning Target

Once you are in the project, build the Spinning Target using the axle Connector. Of course, once you build it, test it in the sim lab. Notice that the objects change as you throw them with the mouse. You can also zoom in or out to make your throws have different amounts of force.

Step 3: Build a Punching Bag

This utilizes the new Pivot Connector. Once built, test it in the sim lab. Note you can make copies of it so there are many punching bags to play with. Using the chapters in the video will make this easy peasy.

Step 4: Create a Sliding Bouncy Toy

Use the slider and the bouncy material to create a device that will rebound several times after being struck. The video will guide you through the steps. Have fun in the Sim Lab. Keep track of the number of times it will bounce back after a single object hits it.

Step 5: Make Something Magical

Now that you have these newfound Tinkercad Sim Lab Skills, make something fun. A windmill, a vertical target, a car... Just start creating and see what you can whip up. Of course, if you make something awesome feel free to let me know via my website or my YouTube channel. Have a glorious day and Keep Tinkering!
