Step 1: Ingredients/Tools

Print the recipe here if you like.

Ingredients:
Berries:

  • 6 - 8 cups of mixed berries (blackberries, raspberries, blueberries) (approx. 600 to 750g)
  • 1/4 cup white granulated sugar (58g)
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose (plain) flour (32g)
  • 1/2 tsp. of ground cinnamon (2g)

Crisp:

  • 1 cup rolled oats (90g)
  • 1/2 cup white granulated sugar (116g)
  • 1/2 all-purpose flour (plain) (64g)
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar (100g)
  • 1/4 tsp. of salt (1g)
  • 1/2 cup softened room temp butter (NOT melted) (113g)

Tools:

  • 10 inch round or 8x8 inch square pan use 8 cups of berries for 10 inch round and 6 cups for 8x8 inch square pan. (buttered)
  • spatula
  • whisk or fork
  • pastry blender (optional)
  • bowls

Top with ice cream or whipped cream if you like. Serve warm or cold, makes 8 to 10 servings depending on the serving size.

Step 2: Berry Berry Flavorful

First preheat the oven to 350 F. (176 C). Next take the dry ingredients that we have separated to season the berries (flour, sugar, cinnamon). Add those to a bowl and whisk to combine.

Step 3: Coat the Berries

Now let's coat the berries with our dry mixture. You can toss the berries or use a spatula.

Step 4: Crisp Topping

Next we need to make our crisp topping. Take the rest of the dry ingredients and add to a large bowl. Use a fork or whisk and blend those together. Then add your butter to the mixture and break it up into chunks. Next blend the butter in with the dry mixture, pushing down with the fork, or you may use a pastry blender. Keep doing this until all the butter in incorporated and you are left with little chunks of butter, flour, sugar, salt, and oats.

Step 5: Pan Them Berries

Now take a 10-inch round or a variety of other sizes of pans, and add your berries to it. Make sure to butter your pan first. Shake the pan so the berries level out.

Step 6: Topping Time

Now add your crisp topping. Use a fork to even it out. Then bake it in a preheated oven at 350 F (176 C) for 50 to 60 minutes until the top gets golden brown and the berries bubble on the edges. Then let it cool for about 10 to 15 minutes before serving.

Step 7: Serve It Up!

Now serve up a scoop of the berry crisp. You can put it on a plate or in a bowl and add ice cream or whipped cream, or whatever else you might like to try with it. I like it warm, but I also like it the next day, cold, after it has sat in the fridge. Enjoy! :)
